The American Association for Homecare is gearing up to launch two national surveys to study the rising costs of providing disposable medical supplies to patients.
The surveys will study factors such as the cost of products, shipping and labor. AAHomecare will then aggregate the information it collects and use that information in its advocacy efforts.
HME providers that supply the following product categories should take the respective surveys:
- Enteral Survey: For providers of enteral nutrition, pumps, kits, and supplies.
- Supplies Survey: For providers of wound care, ostomy and urological supplies.
The surveys are open until April 14.
“AAHomecare’s Medical Supplies Council is acutely focused on issues impacting the disposable supplies space and wants to empower the industry with data and tools that can be leveraged to educate payers on today’s market realities,” said Ashley Plauché, AAHomecare’s Director of Membership & Public Relations. “Information from surveys like these help breathe life into our messaging on the need for sustainable reimbursement to preserve the HME infrastructure and ensure end-user access.”
The surveys are a follow-up to last year’s incontinence survey from AAHomecare, which resulted in an infographic and letter sent to Medicaid directors. The information can also help providers in individual contract negotiations with payers such as MCOs and commercial plans.
