Study: Hearing Aid Use Can Cut Fall Risk
New research published by the National Library of Medicine found that consistent use of hearing aids could cut the risk of falling among older adults.
The June study examined people 60 years and older with bilateral hearing loss. Fall Risk Questionnaires and other survey questions asked about participants’ hearing loss history, use of hearing aids, and other fall risk factors. Research showed that people who used hearing aids had half the odds of falling versus peers who did not use hearing aids. Results were adjusted for age, sex, severity of the hearing loss, and medication usage.
The National Library of Medicine added that older adults with hearing loss are 2.4 times more likely to fall than their peers with normal hearing.
