Maker of pediatric postural and mobility supports Leckey (a part of Sunrise Medical Group) has unveiled the Firefly GottaGo, a toilet seat designed with a unique squat posture to make toileting easier anytime and anywhere.
The Firefly range of products is inspired by “special needs family participation” and is aimed at children with special needs aged 1 to 16 years. The new addition, GottaGo, is lightweight, sturdy and portable, and features a “warm-touch” contoured seat that incorporates a “hug-like” fit to encourage an optimal forward-leaning squat position that relaxes the muscles of the bladder and bowel.
Other features include:
- An adjustable footplate that brings the knees above the hips and an adjustable backrest and lateral supports, which combine to provide an efficient position for toileting.
- Arm supports, laterals and a splash guard that are integrated into the seat to ease use in the home and away, while providing the consistency needed for successful toileting.
- An accompanying backpack and evidenced-based toilet training guide to support and motivate families on their journey to toileting independence.
“When we set out to design GottaGo, we had a simple goal in mind and that was to make toileting easier and more accessible for children and their families,” said Dr. Laura Finney, clinical director for Leckey and Firefly. “The lightweight and portable features of the GottaGo provide the consistency of approach that is crucial for toileting and toilet training.
“The deep squat posture we have achieved is a very natural position which makes toileting easier by relaxing the muscles and letting gravity do the work – this reduces straining, effort and also the time needed to go,” she added.
