ResMed Debuts MaskSelector

HIPAA-compliant digital tool lets patients use sleep attributes and facial measurements to determine their optimal mask options.

Sleep and respiratory equipment maker ResMed has released a digital tool to help patients remotely size and select the right makes from home.

Called the ResMed MaskSelector, the tool assesses the patient’s sleep attributes and facial measurements, and then recommends one of ResMed’s mask, as well as suggests alternates.

HMEs start the process by sending a HIPAA-compliant, single-use link via text or email to the patient. The patient then answers a brief questionnaire and enters three facial measurements into the ResMed MaskSelector portal.

The tool was developed in response to providers’ increased need for a better remote-fitting tool during the COVID-19 public health emergency, ResMed says. The company reports that it surveyed approximately 300 clinicians and found that 54 percent were likely to continue offering remote CPAP setups, but that 55 percent either experienced or were expecting that their biggest challenge to be mask selection when it comes to remote patient setup.

“ResMed MaskSelector is the digital health technology solution to HMEs’ challenge of finding the right mask for each patient when they can’t physically see them due to physical distancing,” said Jim Hollingshead, ResMed Sleep president. “Mask fit and comfort is key to a new CPAP user’s therapy success, and this online tool helps clinicians find the best option for their patients — today and long after this pandemic ends.”

MaskSelector is available starting today to most U.S. HMEs and is available at no charge through Dec. 31. Interested HMEs should contact their ResMed Solutions Consultant or Sales representative.
