AAHomecare: Potential Reimbursement Cuts a Top Industry Concern

The American Association for Homecare (AAHomecare) says funding cuts currently on track to start Jan. 1, 2024, would be “devastating” to many of the home medical equipment (HME) industry’s suppliers.
In a Sept. 7 announcement, AAHomecare referenced the “significant” reimbursement cuts scheduled to start on Jan. 1, when the current Medicare 75/25 blended rate relief for non-bid, non-rural areas will end.
The impact on HME providers would be dire “because these cuts not only impact Medicare FFS [fee for service], but also other payers whose rates are tied to Medicare reimbursement — including TRICARE and more than 20 state Medicaid programs,” the announcement said.
The impending funding cuts will be the priority during AAHomecare’s Washington Legislative Conference, taking place virtually on Sept. 20.
During the conference, industry advocates are expected “to ask legislators and their healthcare staff for their support for extending the blended rate relief and other HME policy priorities,” the announcement added.
