Avoiding Common Accreditation Site Survey Pitfalls
This year marks the big year for DMEPOS
accreditation renewal for HME providers, and a
major part of that process is the site survey.
And, when it comes to those site surveys, there are
some common pitfalls providers need to know to avoid.
Matt Gruskin, chief operating officer for the Board of
Certification/Accreditation (BOC), describes the site
survey process for both providers renewing accreditation
and those who are new to the process; points out
common site survey issues; and also discusses how HME
providers can deal with corrective action. If you want to
have your accreditation ducks in a row either now or in
the future, read this interview.
This Viewpoint will provide the answers to:
- How often must
providers renew their Medicare DMEPOS
accreditation?
- How does a provider
prepare for a site survey and what resources are available for this?
- Are site surveys still virtual right
now due to COVID, or are they
starting to resume in-person?
- How does the AO
help a provider through the site
survey process?
- What are some of the
common deficiencies that might initially cause a
provider to not pass the site survey?
- Are there any deficiencies
that can result in a corrective
action plan that’s a little bit more
complex?
- What does the
corrective action plan look like
and what happens with that?
