Medline Celebrates Opening of Salt Lake City Distribution Center

Medline’s new distribution center in Salt Lake City, Utah, is now open and fully operational.

In a Sept. 26 news announcement, Medline said the new facility measures 710,000 square feet. Local dignitaries, Medline representatives, and representatives of hospitals and healthcare businesses in the area attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony and toured the facility.

The new center is three times the size of Medline’s former Salt Lake City distribution center.

Steve Miller, EVP of Supply Chain for Medline, said in the announcement, “Medline has history in Salt Lake City, and a larger facility will help us take care of more healthcare facilities across the continuum of care. Today we are excited to celebrate our fully operational facility and our employees who work hard every day to ensure the success of our customers.”

As part of its ongoing Healthcare Resilience Initiative, Medline has invested $2 billion in the last five years on domestic manufacturing, distribution, and IT “to strengthen the country’s healthcare supply chain.” The initiative has comprised eight new Medline distribution centers, with 9.7 million square feet of work space, and has “expanded manufacturing capabilities during the pandemic to help meet ongoing PPE [personal protective equipment] time-to-market demands.”

Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall said in the announcement, “I’m excited to welcome back Medline to Salt Lake City. Today marks an important milestone in our mission to build an unparalleled healthcare innovation ecosystem, and I couldn’t be happier to support this expansion. We have tremendous momentum in Salt Lake City right now, and I’m confident Medline will succeed and grow here along with us.”
