Providers Called on to Fill in the GAP
Grassroots Accountability Project from AAHomecare, VGM and state associations is looking for providers in key states to become industry advocates.
As the HME industry prepares its legislative outreach for the 117th Congress, industry leaders are calling on providers and HME stakeholders to help fill in the remaining volunteer positions in its Grassroots Accountability Project (GAP), a key part of local-level industry advocacy.
Driven by the American Association for Homecare and VGM Government Relations in partnership with the industry’s state associations, the GAP recruits local advocates from the industry to raise industry issues and the industry’s visibility with lawmakers in all 535 federal legislative offices.
So far, the GAP has secured volunteers for more than two-thirds of those offices. The map below shows the districts with volunteers in blue and open districts that are top priority in grey. Additionally, the GAP does not have an advocate for Alaska and has two advocates for Hawaii’s two districts, but would welcome others.

The GAP provides volunteers with turnkey resources, talking points, and calls to action for federal advocacy efforts.
“With your help, we can raise the volume on Capitol Hill and harness the momentum from the previous Congress to secure meaningful protections to the HME benefit,” a statement from AAHomecare read. “You don’t need previous government affairs experience for this — just a passion for the industry, your business, and the people you serve. Volunteering won’t take a lot of time but will help make a big impact.”
